IMPHAL: Ahead of the assembly elections in different states across the country, Union Home Minister Amit Shah was seen campaigning against Brinda Thounaojam known as Manipur's lady super cop who took on the drug cartel in the state.

In the recent development, Brinda the super cop and former deputy head of Manipur police is running against the ruling BJP party at the state for the upcoming poll elections.

Brinda is at present running on a Janata Dal(United) ticket against Bharatiya Janata Party's existing member at legislative assembly and present law minister of the state Thokchom Satyabrata Singh.

The Union Home Minister was recently seen campaigning against the women super cop at the Yaiskul Assembly constituency in the Imphal East region.

On speaking about the matter, Brinda said that she is unaware of the Amit Shah's canvassing about her and said that she is taking it as a compliment that the BJP's sitting minister needed Central Home Minister to campaign against her.

She further said that her fight is against the drug menace and corruption activities because as a police officer she was not able to do much for the citizens so now she wants to create an impact in Manipur's assembly.

Brinda gained a lot of recognition in the state after her exceptional service as a police officer in the mission of drug busting. She had handled numerous high-profile cases and in 2018 she seized drugs of over Rupees 27 crores.

43-year-old former police officer Brinda is one of the most known personalities from Manipur police for her dedication and efforts to drug-free the state even though her father-in-law RK Meghan once led an armed rebellion against Manipur.

However, Brinda has submitted her resignation from police after a disagreement with state CM N Biren Singh whom she had accused of helping a drug mafia.

In 2019 the Biren Singh administration had honoured Brinda with a bravery award for her functioning of the anti-narcotics section but she had returned the award in 2020 following the CM's assistance for a drug lord.
